Review

I picked up Dead City after a pupil —who’s a serious bookworm—recommended it. I was hooked from the very first chapter and read it in just a few days, racing through it like a zombie chasing brains!

If you love horror, thrillers, or anything even slightly spooky, this is the perfect book. It’s just the right amount of scary—creepy enough to give you chills, but not so terrifying that you’ll be hiding under your bed. James Ponti does a brilliant job of balancing excitement, danger, and fun.

One of my favourite things was the amazing setting. From creepy cemeteries to secret tunnels and even the top of a tramway high above the city, every location adds a burst of energy to the story. It’s like a spooky rollercoaster ride through zombie-infested Manhattan.

As usual, I adored the main character, Molly, because of her sarcastic, no nonsense outlook on life. It was great learning about her social awkwardness, interesting family history and her determination to be something special. I of course also loved the friendships she developed with her zombie-slaying team Natalie, Grayson and Alex and enjoyed watching them take on the world!

If you’re a fan of The Maze Runner or love fast-paced, action-packed books with a spooky twist, Dead City is for you. It’s thrilling, fun, and might just prepare you in case of a future zombie invasion…

Overview

Most kids have enough to deal with between school, homework, extracurricular activities, and friends, but Molly Bigelow isn't your typical tween. By day, Molly attends MIST--the Metropolitan Institute of Science and Technology--but it's what she's learning outside of school that sets her apart from her classmates. Molly is a zombie hunter, just like her mother.

This, however, is news to Molly. Now she must come to terms with not only the idea that zombies exist, but also that they're everywhere, and it's her job to help police them and keep the peace. Sure, she'd like to be a regular kid, but "regular" just isn't possible when it turns out the most revered (or feared, depending on your perspective) zombie hunter in the history of New York City is your mother. It seems Molly's got some legendary footsteps to follow...
