Review
I was so excited to be part of the unofficial book tour for WARNING: Grandma’s Gone Bonkers — especially after previously receiving some of B. Ware’s other books through the Rebel Reading Society and hearing such glowing reviews about them from my class. A huge thank you again for inviting me onto the ARC crew to celebrate alongside the official book tour running from 16th–20th February — it’s been a real treat to take part!
Although I usually gravitate towards horror and fantasy reads, the title alone instantly grabbed my attention. The idea of a grandma suddenly going “bonkers” promised fun, chaos and mystery — and the book absolutely delivered.
This is a really funny, fast-moving story that’s perfect for younger KS2 readers. It’s easy to read but still includes some interesting new words to learn, so it works well whether children are reading on their own, sharing it in a Year 3 or 4 class, or enjoying it as a bedtime story. There are lots of giggles, curious moments and little clues to talk about together.
One of my favourite things was how the story starts off very funny but slowly turns into a mystery. Readers can try to spot the clues along with the characters, which makes it extra exciting.
I also loved the cheeky interruptions from the narrator (a very funny older man!). These little breaks add humour and keep the story lively, making you want to keep turning the pages.
π Overall, it’s a fun, light-hearted adventure full of laughs, teamwork, mystery and plenty of amusing older characters causing chaos. It’s the kind of book that makes you smile while still keeping you interested in what happens next. π

Nero fears his grandma may be losing her mind. After all, she's been acting very strangely...
But when his parents vanish and top-secret government agents are called in to investigate, Nero begins to question everything. Are his mum and dad responsible for the recent spate of burglaries in the area? Is his headteacher really a vampire? And what's with the mysterious cloak hanging in his grandma's hall closet?
Determined to get to the bottom of things, he and his best friend Jess are left with no choice: they must enlist Grandma's help and launch an investigation of their own.
Will their quest for the truth send the old lady over the edge? Or could there be more to Grandma than meets the eye?
