My Thoughts...

I read A Box Full of Murders by Janice Hallett during my murder mystery binge after seeing it all over Bookstagram. It looked like a bit of a beast (~450 pages) but it was actually very manageable as it's told through texts, diary entries, police reports, recordings etc which makes it feel much quicker (and more fun) to get through.

I actually really liked the format of this one – it felt quite interactive and I enjoyed seeing all the different perspectives (especially the camp diary entries). There’s lots to piece together and loads of little details to keep track of. (I also loved the little “progress reports” – really helpful for keeping track and actually feeling like you’re solving it alongside them.)

I also liked that the main crime happened 40 years earlier so in a way you're jumping between timelines and slowly building the full picture in order to save the mystery before Luke and Ava do.

It’s definitely not gruesome (which I’d usually go for) but it is clever and quite satisfying to work through - a bit like solving a puzzle as you go 🧩

🌟Not one for hardcore thriller fans, but if you like layered mysteries, secrets, outdoor adventure and a bit of “wait… what is going on here?” energy – you’ll enjoy this one!🌟

Blurb

When Ava and Luke discover a mysterious box of papers in their attic they are instantly curious about secrets it might hold. As they read through letters, diary entries, newspaper cuttings and listen to secret recordings, they realize that a decades-old, still unsolved, murder mystery is unfolding right in front of them . . .

Ava and Luke decide to try and
crack the case themselves. But as they work through the clues, it soon becomes clear that the mystery isn't something left in the past: the killer is still be out there - and might be closer than they think...

YOU know the facts. YOU have all the clues. Can YOU solve the mystery before they do?
