My Thoughts...
Now, I’m a huge fan of Ross Montgomery and his wonderful books - Chime Seekers in particular - but NOTHING could have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster that is Small Wonder!
I usually write a lot in my reviews, but I genuinely don’t think I can find the words for this magnificent book. The emotions that Ross Montgomery so delicately weaves throughout his writing are second to none. Small Wonder’s treacherous journey to the mountains had me flipping the pages at a rapid rate, but also gripping them with fear, sighing with relief, cheering with joy and sobbing with pride.
I haven’t read a book that has caused such a strong emotional response in a very, very long time, and I simply wasn’t expecting it after reading the blurb. The wise and guiding words of Tick and Leaf’s grandfather throughout the book were so precious and filled my heart with warmth, while Pebble’s sheer love for and determination to protect her family broke my heart every single time.
🌟I cannot WAIT to read this to my class, and I just know the twists and turns will have them gasping and yelling at the end of every chapter!! An absolute masterpiece. 🌟
Blurb
‘Small Wonder’: that was what Tick’s grandfather always called him. He taught Tick a lot of things: how to take care of himself; how to take care of his little brother, Leaf; how to take care of their horse, Pebble. But Grandfather is no longer around . . .
So when the family home is under suddenly threat, it’s on Tick to put everything he’s learned into practice and protect his family, by taking them on a quest filled with danger. Because it’s not just their home at risk; enemies are invading the whole land. He has only six moons to get to Kings’ Keep and warn their ruler . . .
Travelling through forests and mountains, encountering bandits and rogue knights along the way, the journey is not an easy one. But Tick is determined to honour his grandfather’s last advice – Make it count, Small Wonder. . .
