My Thoughts...
I was thrilled to receive a review copy of “A Clock Strikes Murder” from the publisher, especially since I’ve enjoyed Michelle Harrison’s work before. This one promised a blend of mystery, mythology, and a touch of magic—and it did not disappoint!
The story follows twin sisters who can manipulate time due to their unique birth—one on New Year’s Eve, one just after midnight on New Year’s Day. While visiting a museum of cursed objects in Greece, they face a bewitched Medusa painting linked to mysterious deaths. What starts as a classic whodunit unfolds with layers of suspense and surprising twists.
What I loved most were the rich layers of the mystery (there are more mysteries at hand than you first may think!) and the twin dynamic—they’re fun, super smart, and their abilities add a unique edge.
The book also weaves in Greek culture, a sprinkle of humor (thanks, Feta the goat!), and moments that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Although the murder isn't too gruesome, there is a brilliant list of suspects to examine and narrow down before the end of the book. I kept changing my mind and have realised that I probably wouldn't make a very good detective...
πI’d recommend this to confident readers aged 8+—an exciting, layered adventure!π
Blurb
Our story begins with identical twins . . .
Spike and Merry are back on the case – and this time they're in Greece. The cursed Medusa painting is up for auction, but anyone who looks at it directly, will die. When one of the bidders is found dead and the painting's owner goes missing, the twins use their time bending powers to investigate. Is it really a curse, or is someone out for revenge . . . ?
