My Thoughts...
I was so excited to read The Pirate’s Pact because the author, who’s from the U.S., actually sent me a copy with lots of fun goodies, which made the whole experience even more special. I love a pirate adventure and so was very happy to give this book a try!
The story is set way in the future, in the 2300s, following twins Mac and Kik. They find a hidden letter that leads them on a treasure hunt, but along the way, they face some differences, bullying, and adventures—yet ultimately, their sibling bond deepens. Plus, their dog Rummy helps too!
What I really loved was the innocent childhood adventure that the twins go on. Racing through forests, marshes and caves, splashing around with their lovely dog, exploring in the baking sun as they search for the missing parts of their treasure map. There's no magic or mythical beasts, just two brothers putting their differences aside for an adventure of a lifetime.
I also love that the book is set in the future, but isn't full of crazy technology, robots and other futuristic things. It's exactly as life is now, besides a few subtle differences - a greater history of pirates, continents and countries and unique cultures.
🌟 I would recommend this book to readers in Year 4 and up. It’s a fun adventure, but it does touch on themes like bullying and identity, so it’s great for thoughtful young readers ready for a bit more depth.🌟
Blurb
Two brothers, a hidden secret, and an adventure of a lifetime.
On the pirate island of Bosch, almost eleven-year-old twins Kik and Mac are facing a storm of changes. With a father from Edo and a Bosch mother, the brothers navigate the challenges of identity, friendship, and family in their own unique ways.
Mac, daring and mischievous, finds himself in a whirlwind of trouble as he strives to impress new friends. Meanwhile, Kik, quiet and observant, grapples with his heritage and a heartfelt secret he's not ready to share.
When a ball thrown in anger fractures a family heirloom, a hidden piece of a pirate treasure map emerges, setting them on a quest that will shake up their relationship and reshape their understanding of family.
A Pirates' Pact is a tale of friendship, self-discovery, and the enduring strength of family ties. Will Kik's and Mac's pact withstand the challenges ahead? Embark on this middle grade adventure where bonds are forged, secrets are unveiled, and treasures go beyond gold and jewels.
