My Thoughts...

I picked up Land of the Last Wildcat after chatting to Lui Sit with my class, and she was absolutely wonderful! She was super inspiring and definitely had me sold on her book. Magical wildcats, crime and epic chases across the world? YES PLEASE!

In this book, Puffin Lau has two problems: her scientist mum barely speaks to her, and a mythical wildcat called the kuri is depending on her for survival. Determined to return the kuri to its rightful home, Puffin sets off on an epic adventure with her best friend, Lance. But with the sinister Professor Smoult hot on their heels, desperate to capture the kuri and steal its magical powers, the pair must outsmart their pursuers and race to Linger Island before it's too late!

This is such a fun, fast-paced adventure that I think both growing and confident readers will enjoy! Puffin and Lance certainly know how to get themselves into trouble, and every chapter left me wanting to find out what would happen to the kuri next. There's plenty of action, mischief and excitement to keep readers hooked

As an animal lover, learning about the gorgeous and very magical kuri was another highlight. With its ability to heal the injured, it's not hard to understand why the baddies want to capture it for their own gain! I also loved the links to scientific research, which provide a brilliant discussion point for readers: should animals ever be harmed for the benefit of humankind?
